Standalone Sites Connected to Strolls

Certain Paris attractions are located in places that don’t fit into a stroll – they are off by themselves, without much of interest around them.  So, they are best visited as standalone sites.    However, some of them can be connected with our strolls via direct Metro rides – either from the standalone site to the stroll start point, or from the stroll end point to the standalone site.  The three most popular standalone sites – the Arc de Triomphe, Cimetiere Pere Lachaise, and Musee Jacquemart-Andre – are listed below, with information about visiting them and connecting those visits with strolls.  

ARC DE TRIOMPHE 

Place Charles de Gaulle traffic rotary at western end of Champs Elysees.  Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile (#1, 2, 6) is right there.  Famous triumphal arch with exterior sculptures, unknown soldier tomb and memorial flame, and interior exhibits, plus observation deck (285 stairs).  The monument is reached via an underground passageway, the entry to which is on the north side of the Champs Elysees, the east side of the traffic rotary.  Open 10am-11pm (to 10:30pm Oct 1 – Dec 31).  Tickets available online and at site, €13, free to those under age 18 and EU citizens ages 18 to 25.

Connecting to Start Points of Strolls (4, 5, 6, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25):

  • Connect to Stroll 4 (The Louvre & Vicinity), or Stroll 6 (Les Halles-Pompidou-Hotel de Ville): From Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #1 line headed east (direction “Chateau de Vincennes”) seven stops to station Louvre -Rivoli.  Exit there, at the southeast corner of Rue de Rivoli and Rue du Louvre (Rue de l’Amiral Coligny going south to the river), where both strolls begin.  (It’s about a 15-minute ride.)
  • Connect to Stroll 5 (Palais Royal & Vicinity): From Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #1 line headed east (direction “Château de Vincennes”) six stops to station Palais Royal – Musee du Louvre. Exit there onto Place Collette, at the entrance to the Palais Royal, where the stroll begins.  (It’s about a 15-minute ride.)    
  • Connect to Stroll 15 (Concorde-Tuileries-Vendome), or Stroll 16 (Concorde-Madeleine-Expiatoire), or Stroll 17 (Concorde to Place de l’Alma): From Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #1 line headed east (direction “Château de Vincennes”) four stops to station Concorde.  Exit there, onto Place de la Concorde, where all three strolls begin.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride.)
  • Connect to Stroll 19 (Passy) or Stroll 20 (Eiffel Tower & Vicinity): from Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #6 line heading south/east (direction “Nation”) three stops to station Trocadero.  Exit there onto Place du Trocadero, where both strolls begin.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride.)
  • Connect to Stroll 22 (Parc Monceau & Vicinity): from Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #2 line headed north/west (direction “Nation”) three stops to station Monceau.  Exit there onto Blvd de Courcelles, outside the entrance to Parc Monceau, where the stroll begins.  (it’s about a 10-minute ride.)         
  • Connect to Stroll 23 (Batignolles): from Metro station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #2 line headed north/west (direction “Nation”) six stops to station Place de Clichy.  Exit there onto the traffic island of the Place de Clichy traffic intersection where the stroll begins.  (It’s about a 15-minute ride.)    
  • Connect to Stroll 25 (Pigalle aka SOPI): from station Charles de Gaulle Etoile, take the #2 line headed north/west (direction “Nation”) eight stops to station Pigalle.  Exit there, onto Blvd de Clichy at Place Pigalle, where the stroll begins. (It’s about a 20-minute ride).

  • Connect from Stroll 7 (Central Marais): from Metro station Saint Paul, take the #1 line headed west (direction “La Defense”) nine stops to station Charles de Gaulle Etoile.  (It’s about a 20-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 15 (Concorde-Tuileries-Vendome): from Metro station Concorde, take the #1 line headed west (direction “La Defense”) four stops to station Charles de Gaulle Etoile.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 18 (Avenue Wilson Museum Mile): from Metro station Trocadero, take the #6 line headed north (direction “Charles de Gaulle Etoile”) three stops to that station end point.  (It’s about a 5-10-minute ride).   
  • Connect from Stroll 19 (Passy): from Metro station Passy, take the #6 line headed north (direction “Charles de Gaulle Etoile”) four stops to that station end point.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride).   
  • Connect from Stroll 22 (Parc Monceau & Vicinity): from Metro station Villiers, take the #2 line headed south/west (direction “Porte Dauphine”) four stops to station Charles de Gaulle Etoile.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 24 (Montmartre): from Metro station Pigalle, take the #2 line headed south/west (direction “Porte Dauphine”) eight stops to station Charles de Gaulle Etoile.  (It’s about a 20-minute ride.) 

CIMETIERE PERE LACHAISE

#20 Rue du Repos.  Metro station Père Lachaise (#2, #3 lines), or Philippe Auguste (#2 line), or Alexandre Dumas (#2 line).  All stations exit onto Blvd Menilmontant, opposite the cemetery.  This is Paris’s largest and most well-known cemetery, with tombs of many famous persons, including Frederic Chopin, Edith Piaf, Moliere, Honore de Balzac,  Colette, Oscar Wilde, Heloise and Abelard, Sarah Bernhardt and Jim Morrison.  The main entrance is on Blvd de Menilmontant, opposite the end of Rue de la Roquette, a short distance south of Metro station Pere Lachaise or north of Metro station Philippe Auguste.  There is a small entrance leading into the northwest corner of the cemetery by Metro station Pere Lachaise. And there is another entrance leading into the middle of the south side of the cemetery, located at the end of Rue de la Reunion. (Rue de la Reunion is accessed from Rue de Bagnolet, which leads due east from the boulevard at Metro station Alexandre Dumas, about a 5-10 minute walk.)  Mon-Fri 8am-5:30pm, Sat 8:30am-5:30pm, Sun 9am-5:30pm, free. Connecting to Start Points of Strolls (21, 23, 24, 27, 28): 

  • Connect to Stroll 21 (Opera-Haussmann-Saint Lazare):  From Metro station Pere Lachaise, take the #3 line headed west (direction “Port de Levallois Becon”) ten stops to station Opera.  Exit there, emerging onto Place de l’Opera, between Opera Garnier and Blvd des Capucines, where the stroll begins. (It’s about a 20-25-minute ride.)

  • Connect to Stroll 23 (Batignolles): From Metro station Pere Lachaise, take the #2 line headed north/west (direction “Porte Dauphine”) twelve stops to station Place de Clichy.   Exit there onto the traffic island of the Place de Clichy traffic intersection where the stroll begins. (It’s about a 25-30-minute ride).   Note: this trip can also made on the #2 line from Metro station Philippe Auguste (add one stop) or Metro station Alexandre Dumas (add two stops).    
  • Connect to Stroll 24 (Pigalle aka SOPI): From Metro station Pere Lachaise, take the #2 line headed north/west (direction “Porte Dauphine”) ten stops to station Pigalle.  Exit there, onto Blvd de Clichy at Place Pigalle, where the stroll begins. (It’s about a 20-25-minute ride).   Note: this trip can also made on the #2 line from Metro station Philippe Auguste (add one stop) or Metro station Alexandre Dumas (add two stops).  
  • Connect to Stroll 27 (Arts et Metiers to Republique): From Metro station Pere Lachaise, take the #3 line headed west (direction “Port de Levallois Becon”) five stops to station Arts et Metiers.  Exit there at the front of the train to emerge on Rue Reaumur opposite Musee Arts et Metiers, where the stroll begins.  (It’s about a 10-15-minute ride.)  
  • Connect to Stroll 28 (Canal Saint Martin): From Metro station Pere Lachaise, take the #3 line headed west (direction “Port de Levallois Becon”) three stops to station Republique.  Exit there onto the plaza of Place de Republique, by the “Marianne” statue, where the stroll begins.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride.)

Connecting from End Points of Strolls (16, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28):

  • Connect from Stroll 16 (Concorde-Madeleine-Expiatoire): from Metro station Havre -Caumartin, take the #3 line headed east (direction “Gallieni”) nine stops to station Pere Lachaise.  (It’s about a 20-25-minute ride.) 
  • Connect from Stroll 21 (Opera-Haussamann-Saint Lazare): from Metro station Saint Lazare, take, take the #3 line headed east (direction “Gallieni”) ten stops to station Pere Lachaise.  (It’s about a 20-25-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 22 (Parc Monceau & Vicinity): from Metro station Villiers, take the #3 line headed east (direction “Gallieni”) fourteen stops to station Pere Lachaise.  (It’s about a 30-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 24 (Montmartre): from Metro station Pigalle, take the #2 line headed south/east (direction “Nation”) ten stops to station Pere Lachaise, or eleven stops to station Philippe Auguste, or twelve stops to station Alexandre Dumas.  (It’s about a 20-25-minute ride.) 
  • Connect from Stroll 26 (Cadet to Bourse via Passages):  from Metro station Bourse, take the #3 line headed east (direction “Gallieni”) eight stops to station Pere Lachaise.  (It’s about a 20-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 27 (Arts et Metiers to Republique), or Stroll 28 (Canal Saint Martin): from Metro station Republique, take the #3 line headed east (direction “Gallieni”) three stops to station Pere Lachaise.  (It’s about a 5-10-minute ride.)  

MUSEE JACQUEMART-ANDRE 

#158 Blvd Haussmann, near Rue de Courcelles, about half a mile east of the Arc de Triomphe.  Metro station Miromesnil (#9, #13 lines) is nearest.  There you emerge at the intersection of Rue de la Boetie (running east-west) and Avenue Percier (running north) aka Rue Declasse (running south).  To reach the museum, walk north on Avenue Percier to Blvd Haussmann, cross the boulevard, turn left and walk a block and one-half to the entrance (about a 5-10-minute walk).  The museum is housed in a large, opulently furnished 19th century mansion, and presents the former owners’ extraordinary collection of artworks, many from the Renaissance in Italy and the 18th century in France, as well as special exhibits.  Open daily 10am-6pm.  €12 (adult) €11 (over 65), €7.5 (7-25).  Café Jacquemart-Andre, on site, is housed in a gorgeous Beaux Arts room with a painted ceiling.  It serves lunch and Sunday Brunch, and can be accessed independent of museum entry.  Cafe open Mon-Fri 11:45am-6pm, Sat 11am-6pm, Sunday Brunch 11am-2:30pm.  Lunch prix fixe @€19-31, child @€14, various a la carte options; Brunch prix fixe @€32, child @€16.  No reservations.

  • Connect to Stroll 18 (Avenue Wilson Museum Mile): from Metro station Miromesnil, take the #9 line headed south/west (direction “Pont de Sèvres) three stops to station Alma-Marceau.  Exit there, emerging at Place de l’Alma.  (It’s about a 5-minute ride).  Note: There are various station exits around the traffic intersection.  Go to the west corner on the side away from the river, where Avenue du President Wilson enters.  La Grand Corona restaurant is at that corner.  The stroll begins there.   
  • Connect to Stroll 19 (Passy), or Stroll 20 (Eiffel Tower & Vicinity): from Metro station Miromesnil, take the #9 line headed south/west (direction “Pont de Sèvres) five stops to station Trocadero.  Exit there, at Place du Trocadero, where both strolls begin.  (It’s about a 10-minute ride).  
  • Connect to Stroll 23 (Batignolles):  from Metro station Miromesnil, take the #13 line headed north (this direction indicated as either “Gabriel Peri-Asnieres Gennevilliers” or “Saint Denis Basilique” because the line splits) three stops to station Place de Clichy.  Exit there onto the traffic island of the Place de Clichy traffic intersection where the stroll begins.  (It’s about a 5-10-minute ride.)        

Connecting from End Points of Strolls (13, 16, 17, 18, 21, 23):

  • Connect from Stroll 13 (Musee D’Orsay to Musee Rodin): from Metro station Varenne, take the #13 line headed north (this direction is indicated as either “Gabriel Peri-Asnieres Gennevilliers” or “Saint Denis Basilique” because the line splits near the end) three stops to station Miromesnil.  (It’s about a 5-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 16 (Concorde-Madeleine-Expiatoire): from Metro station Saint Lazare, take the #13 line headed south (direction “Chatillon Montrouge”) one stop to station Miromesnil.  Alternatively, from Metro station Havre-Caumartin, take the #9 line headed south/west (direction “Pont de Sevres”) two stops to station Miromesnil.  (By either route, it’s about a 5-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 17 (Concorde to Place de l’Alma): from Metro station Alma-Marceau, take the #9 line headed north/east (direction “Mairie de Montreuil”) three stops to station Miromesnil.  (It’s about a 5-minute ride).
  • Connect from Stroll 18 (Avenue Wilson Museum Mile): from Metro station Trocadero, take the #9 line headed north/east (direction “Mairie de Montreuil”) five stops to station Miromesnil.  (It’s about a 10-15-minute ride).
  • Connect from Stroll 21 (Opera-Haussmann-Saint Lazare): from Metro station Saint Lazare, take the #13 line headed south (direction “Chatillon Montrouge”) one stop to station Miromesnil.  (It’s about a 5-minute ride.)
  • Connect from Stroll 23 (Batignolles): from Metro station Brochant, take the #13 line headed south (direction “Chatillon Montrouge”) five stops to station Miromesnil.  (It’s about a 15-minute ride.)
